SHARED SPACES
Baton Rouge, Louisiana has a population of homeless adults in the hundreds and homeless children in the thousands. People with mental illness, addictions, and/or physical disabilities often fall into the homeless population because there are not enough accommodating services and medical help for them. With LSU’s School of Interior Design and Access Your Life, Shared Spaces of Baton Rouge can help with this problem by creating a common space for informing the community about how design can improve the lives of the homeless. It will provide an opening and welcoming space for designers, design students, and the community to assist homeless adults and children. The space will be open but include different areas for student studio work, community meetings, interactive showcase, and informal common area. Shared Spaces would work with contractors to build various housing options that would be affordable, comfortable, and dynamic in an attempt to decrease the homeless population in Baton Rouge.
